Charity

Thanks for the guest post by Jonathan Curtis

My family and I live in a very small, very rural area. We are faced daily with other families who are in need thanks to the depressed economy and the shortage of jobs in our town. We knew we couldn’t sit around and do nothing, so we started a charity that allows residents of our town to contribute to those in need. We will accept almost any contribution—money, furniture, hand-me-down clothes, you name it. We coordinate donations primarily through email, and we allow anyone to drop off donations at our home or at our church. We are blown away on a regular basis by the generosity of our tiny little town. My husband and I like to say that everyone here recognized the need for something like our charity, but no one was quite sure how to orchestrate it. We were fortunate too in discovering Internet providers by Zip Code. While we don’t have many options for internet connection where we live, we were able to sign up for satellite internet to allow us to continue serving our community. We know the donations from our neighbors have blessed so many in need, and running this charity has ended up blessing us too. Who’d have known?

Bringing the motorized toy car

(On the way to the park.)

One of the days wherein I tested my DL! In this picture, I put the motorized toy car of my kid beside me since there’s no room at the baggage compartment. If there’s a room, this thing won’t fit either. Anyway, since I brought my kids a little bit late in the afternoon and the air was a bit cold, they just stayed at the park for several minutes (like 30 minutes). After that, we went home. It’s fun to be out once in a while!

Mom and Me

Post contributed by Josue Durham

Mom and I looked into everything, merchant services, vendor contracts and even the tax laws in the state but you know, I still don’t feel ready to really open the doors to this place and let clients in. I’m terrified of what might happen and all the horrible mistakes I just know we’re going to make in our first few weeks but I guess I just have to get over that so I’m able to run my small business effectively. Well, I say I will run it but mom will be there too – she’s a silent partner but she’s been more help than I could have ever imagined getting everything ready to go. I can’t thank her enough and I’m just really pumped to get everything in order – we’ve only got a few weeks to go before business really begins and you know, I think we’re going to be ready. I may be sweating and as nervous as I’ve ever been in my life but gosh darnit I’m going to be ready for this!

Veges in pots

These were my house vegetable plants. But I wasn’t able to eat any of these since I wasn’t able to take good care of these. And I think I will just be trying my best next time as I do love to grow my own vegetables and eat fresh anytime I want to.

Mom’s Alone

I appreciate the guest post, Ignacio Phillips

Mom lives alone now since dad died and I know she’s been having kind of a hard time. I went to www.homesecuritysystem.com a month or so ago and found a good alarm system to suggest to her and I know she’s been asking me to come over now more than ever. It’s a really tough thing because I have my own family that I owe my free time to but I sure don’t want to disappoint mom in her time of need, you know? Have any of you out there struggled with this sort of thing? It’s hard having a single parent at her age and I know she’s got no real intention of dating or marryingagain so I feel like it may just be this way forever. It’s nice to have her around more though for the kids and even my husband likes her so that’s one less thing for me to worry about! We’ll find a balance soon, I’m sure, but until then mom’s sort of on her own unless I’m free.
